I was pretty pleased with these, especially considering they were a last minute improvisation.
Technical notes! Spicy Japanese mayonnaise is something I try to always have on hand for sushi making. I usually get the Kewpie mayo from the Korean grocery up the street, and mix in some Sriracha and some crushed ginger until it’s the right color. Yes, it’s mayo, but a little bit goes such a long way. Niles got me a giant bag of frozen shrimp, and I had some lettuce left over from salad lunch, and there’s pretty much always onions and garlic in the house. It actually cooked up really fast. The only thing I wish I had to add would be some cabbage, but it’s probably better to keep it simple anyway.
The sourdough… Ok, I really didn’t need it, but that’s from the brand new La Boulangerie down on the square. I’m really excited about that place, and I wanted to have a taste before it got too old. It didn’t disappoint. They do a bread delivery service called Breadflix, how cute is that? I must resist. If they gave me a freshly baked baguette I can’t guarantee I wouldn’t eat the whole thing in one sitting.

It is a good thing we don’t have any sort of bread delivery service. I’d just sit around in my PJs all day with some olive oil, pepper, & garlic and wait for my baguette to arrive.
My boyfriend bakes really good bread, but he has a part-time job so that keeps him from making it too often. We try very hard to make it last, but his stew bread is to die for.
