So I don’t know if you’ve been devouring news of Superstorm Sandy and the aftermath like I have, but it feels super bizarre to be living in a city where everything is normal when so many people I know have had their lives turned upside down. And after reading so many articles about how hard it is for some people to get even the most basic foodstuffs, it felt a little frivolous to be writing comics about food without saying something about the people who are having such a hard time getting it.

As a New Jersey-ite who grew up on one of the barrier islands and now lives in Northern NJ where there is no power (I’m staying with family 2.5 hours away) I’d like to say thanks for this. You’ve captured the reality of the situation very well–also, if you didn’t get cash from ATMs before the storm, you’ll have to drive to the bank when it’s open because no power means no ATMs–that’s if the bank is open and has electricity, and if you can get gas for your car if you don’t live within walking distance of your bank. It’s pretty stressful, even for those who still have homes to go to. Move closer to the coast, and homes are gone. So thanks, Sarah.
