Today’s comic is from Allison Brown, who thoughtfully reminds us that you can fall just as much in love with cookbooks as with the food itself. In this Age of the Internet, I haven’t bought a new cookbook in a long, long while; most of the recipes I use come from websites. But every time someone sends me a cookbook, I spend hours poring over it, lingering on the photos, filing away notes-to-self on ingredients or presentation. I’ve been neglecting you, cookbooks!

Oh, I do love this cookbook! It’s not so much vegetarian as vegetables, the pure love of vegetables. Yessss.
My favorite right now is Julia Child’s Mastering the Art of French Cooking. And the one I am coveting most and can’t wait to get in my grubby little hands is Essential Pepin. Made one of the recipes from the book that is online, the Flat Potato Omlette, and holy cow was it good. And oddly, also vegetarian!
Oh yeah, this is totally true. Mine is Vegan with a Vengeance, for sure.
I can so relate! I looooove cookbooks, but the only one I ever cook from is Joy of Cooking. I mostly just flip through them, plan menus, wonder about substitutions, and drool over pictures.
