…but it is a great homemade summer treat, and the texture’s just like soft-serve! I found this recipe last summer on the Kitchn, where they have better instructions than I’m giving you here. If you like bananas, this is the treat for you. You need the prep time for freezing the banana, but once that’s done it’s a really quick and easy snack. It’s really fun to watch it magically go from crumbly frozen bananas to a smooth and creamy texture. Plus, it’s just a banana, so if you don’t add anything, it’s dairy free and gluten free, if those are things that concern you. Personally, I like it with a spoon of peanut butter and some shaved chocolate, but it’d probably be good with some pecans and caramel too, am I right?

Or coconut!
We add cocoa powder and honey!
Oooh these are great ideas! Someone on my facebook suggested coconut cream, which I bet would be great, but I love shredded coconut on top of almost anything. Now I have to try this with coconut, and then AGAIN with cocoa powder and honey. :)
This is great. Thank you!
I just made this last night! I added nutella to mine and it was so good.
Oooo this sounds good. My fiance loves bananas (I do too) so this will be a great alternative to ice cream for us! I’d bet adding other fruit to it would be good too, like strawberries!
I don’t particularly care for bananas, but it is mostly a texture thing so this treat might solve that. So many good ideas in the comments! Cocoa powder and honey sounds amazing.
NUTELLA. How have I never thought of putting Nutella in there? Okay, we need to start making a list of extra ingredients for this. All of these ideas sound awesome!
Another note I forgot to add earlier: When you first make this, it’s soft and creamy like soft serve, but if you have some left over and you freeze it, it’s a lot harder, and can be scooped like normal ice cream. I very much prefer having it right away, but you can definitely save some for later too.
Oh man!! This sounds SO GOOD. I MUST try this. Definitely up for adding some nutella! Sounds delicious, yum!
So I made this this morning for after my workout. I used 1 banana (should have frozen it more, but, oh well, next time), a scoop of vanilla protein powder, a tablespoon of almond butter (much better for you than peanut butter, plus I like the taste better) and threw some cacao nibs on it after I put it in a bowl. Delicious!
Hi! This is one amazing recipe! I love love looove bananas and this is soo good – I tried it with a lil bit of coffee, yum :)
I would like to post this on my healthy weight loss blog on tumblr, http://veronika-gets-fit.tumblr.com/, I hope you donĀ“t mind – this thing is just too amazing not to share! Anyways, if you have any objections, just send me a word and I can take it off :)
I cut my bananas into fairly large chunks, and froze them overnight. The magic bullet couldn’t handle it at all. The food processor did better. I did still end up with several large chunks but they were fine to eat. I think next time I would slice the bananas thinner, though. I served it with honey drizzled over and a handful of chocolate chips (which ended up freezing into hard little lumps, didn’t love it). Will definitely try it again with some variations!
My FAVE way to make ice cream :)
