Drawing that pizza in the previous comic made me want to eat a pizza, which made me want to draw pizza again. I still had a bunch and a half of ramps in the fridge, and I was trying to decide what to do with them. All the big recipes you find online can essentially be boiled down to 1) pasta, 2) soup, 3) some kind of eggy thing, and 4) butter. I’d already done 1 and 4, and Niles doesn’t like eggs, and soup didn’t sound interesting to me. So on a whim I looked up “ramps pizza” and found a bunch of great ideas.

I have a confession to make. I suck at baking. I think I’m a pretty good cook, but baking is and always has been a little bit of a mystery to me. I would estimate that of the times I have tried to make pizza dough, I have failed about 80% of the time. Usually it’s too dense or tough. Often it doesn’t rise. So tonight I didn’t hold out a lot of hope, but it ended up pretty okay, actually! It’s not the Napoli-style crispy bubbly goodness that I hoped, but it’s tasty and chewy, and more than edible. I actually kneaded a little bit of the ramps butter I made into the dough, so the pizza is extra-special-rampy.

I guess what I’m saying is, don’t come near me for the next day or two unless you’re ready for the rampness.

Oh man, you guys, are you ready for some guest comics? Starting Monday there’s gonna be some awesome comics from some awesome friends!
